“Play turns out to be so stunningly essential to childhood; it’s like love, sunshine, and broccoli all juiced together.” — Lenore Skenazy

           The Sanctuary             (Where We Play)

Our Playroom is designed to create a space of permissiveness, allowing the child to “play out” any presenting feelings with few limitations on their play.  Your child takes the lead in Play Therapy sessions.   As your child plays, the Play Therapist acknowledges, validates and responds empathetically, which ensures that your child feels understood, heard and seen.  The Play Therapist remains accepting of any emotion or feeling.

Toys and play materials in the Playroom are carefully selected; they are inclusive of varying skill, ability and culture.  Toys and play materials are chosen to promote expressive and imaginative play, which encourages the expression of a range of emotions.  This helps your child to fully explore their sense of self; encompassing your child’s feelings, thoughts, experiences and behaviours.

Each toy and play material in the Playroom serves a purpose; at Sanctuary Play Therapy we consider how will each toy help the child express themselves and how will each toy help the Play Therapist build a therapeutic connection with your child.

Toys, play materials and the structure of the Playroom remain unchanged each week your child attends a Play Therapy session.  This consistency and predictability creates an envirnoment of safety for your child.

At Sanctuary Play Therapy we strive to provide an environment which is aesthetically pleasing, spacious and allows room for your child to move and explore as they need.
